CHEEKTOWAGA – Cheektowaga Police are investigating a shots fired incident on Walden Galleria property.
The shots rang out around 2:50 Sunday afternoon on the upper-level deck outside Macy’s south entrance.
Eyewitnesses told police two vehicles were driving through the parking lot exchanging the shots.
Sgt. Shawn McAdams of the Cheektowaga Police said, “we don’t believe this is a random act, but we do believe this is a targeted act between two groups.”
No one was reported hurt, but area hospitals were put on notice of the incident according to a police source. No one was reported to be struck by gunfire at area hospitals as of later Sunday afternoon.
Police officers established a crime scene and logged several casings into evidence. They are also logging some video of the incident into evidence. The department is working on getting descriptions out to the public. Sgt. McAdams said the department might release the footage at a later time.
Several customers who parked in the lot waited outside the Macy’s entrance while police investigated the crime. They were later escorted to their cars by police.
“We understand that today is Mother’s Day,” Mr. McAdams said, “so we’re trying to be accommodating in that aspect. We’re just sectioning off the section we believe where there is evidence. Getting them out of here and preserving our witnesses.”
