CHEEKTOWAGA – The Cheektowaga Police Department is investigating an early morning rollover crash that sent a young woman to the hospital.
The crash happened around 5 am on Como Park Boulevard near Harvest Lane.
A law enforcement source tells Cheektowaga Chronicle that a young woman, of age, was driving eastbound on Como Park.
It appears she crossed over the opposite lane of traffic before hitting a ditch on the north side of the street just before Harvest. Her vehicle flipped over onto its roof and came to rest in a ditch on the other side of Harvest Lane.
She took out a mailbox and street sign during the sequence of events we’re told.
Bellevue firefighters responded to the scene to assist the woman. She was able to remove herself from the vehicle with the help of the firefighters. No one else was in the car.
The driver was transported to Erie County Medical Center by ambulance for medical evaluation.
The cause of the crash was under investigation at the time of publication early Thursday morning.
Even though the temperature hovered around 8 degrees, Como Park Boulevard was dry at the time of the crash.
Police say they are looking at every factor, including the fact that last night is traditionally a busy drinking night.
