CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – Verizon took part in a public hearing at Tuesday’s town board meeting. The purpose was to discuss putting up a “micro” cell tower on Transit Road.
The company wants to put up a six foot tower on top of an apartment building at 5074 Transit Road.
Verizon says adding the micro tower will help improve cell phone service at peak times, as the larger towers we are all used to get strained with the increased demand.
Many cell phone companies are now moving towards denser networks of smaller towers in high demand areas. It costs less than putting up a standard cell tower, and it’s not considered to be as much of an eyesore.
Some cities have been adding microtowers in their area since as far back as 2013.
The board is expected to vote on Verizon’s plan at an upcoming meeting.
