CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – An adult member of the Cheektowaga Girls Fastpitch Softball organization died Saturday.

Cheektowaga Police Assistant Chief Jim Speyer tells Cheektowaga Chronicle that a 46-year-old male umpire suffered a sudden medical emergency and collapsed on the field around 10:33 a.m. Saturday at Nestico Field on George Urban Boulevard.

Despite the efforts of the U-Crest firefighters and American Medical Response, the man could not be revived.

The rest of the games scheduled for Saturday were canceled out of respect.

We have reached out to the softball organization and we hope to bring you more information about the gentlemen’s life and legacy in the coming days.
