CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – Cheektowaga Police quickly nabbed two people who may be connected to an attempted robbery Friday afternoon.

Police responded to the Cash for Cans store on Harlem Road around 2 p.m. after the store reported two men tried to rob the business.

Assistant Chief of Police James Speyer tells Cheektowaga Chronicle that Police Captain Mike Sliwinski initiated a traffic stop in front of Town Park moments after the radio report was dispatched to officers.  The occupants were detained by police while investigators pieced together what happened.

Clerks at Cash for Cans noticed the men outside acting suspiciously. They locked the doors to the store and called police.  That’s when the men fled.

The vehicle involved was impounded by police.  Police were not able to release the names of the men or the charges they face late Friday as the investigation continues.

This Cash for Cans store was robbed last month on February 9th.  It was reported that the store lost $3,000.
