Police detain hit-and-run driver after short pursuit

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – The driver of a pickup truck who led Cheektowaga Police on a brief pursuit midday Friday was detained by police after he crashed into a snowbank on the property of the Thruway Plaza.

The incident began after a two-vehicle crash at Walden Avenue and Anderson Road around 11:30 a.m.  

The pickup driver drove away from the scene according to witnesses.

Police caught up to the pickup truck around the entrance to the Thruway Plaza, but the driver would not stop.  The driver crashed into a snowbank behind The Home Depot while trying to avoid the police.

The driver was detained while police continue to sort the events out.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash was taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.

Both vehicles were towed by Davron Collision.
