CHEEKTOWAGA – A motorcyclist was transported to the hospital after a crash on William Street Friday evening in the Doyle fire district.

The accident happened around 8 pm at the intersection of William Street and Ceil Drive.

A police source tells Cheektowaga Chronicle that it appears a vehicle was turning westbound onto William Street from Ceil Drive when a motorcycle traveling eastbound on William broadsided the car.

The operator, a man in his early 20’s, was thrown from the bike and slid under a vehicle in the westbound lane of William.  Police are trying to determine if another eastbound vehicle struck the operator after he was thrown from the bike.

We’re told he was alert and talking to first responders.  It appears from initial observations at the scene that he suffered a few broken bones.  He was transported to Erie County Medical Center where doctors could determine the full extent of his injuries.

His motorcycle came to rest and started on fire.  A police officer used a fire extinguisher from his cruiser to put out the fire.

Doyle firefighters, an AMR ambulance, and Cheektowaga Police attended to the scene.

William Street was shut down between the Interstate 90 and Vern Lane for around an hour.

Cheektowaga Police continue their investigation into the cause of the crash.
