CHEEKTOWAGA – Cheektowaga Police detectives are investigating an incident where a man said he was shot Monday night on Walden Avenue, but evidence to support the claim isn’t there just yet according to police.

Patrol officers and detectives were summoned to Izzy’s Mini Market at 1174 Walden Avenue just after 9 pm Monday after a man came into the store claiming he was just shot at a nearby intersection.

Cheektowaga Chronicle observed an emergency medical crew from American Medical Response treating the man.  Sources say the injury appeared to be a superficial wound.

Police officers were also seen searching high and low for casings and bullet holes near the intersection of Haller and Walden Avenues about a block away from the convenient store.

The man was later transported to the hospital.

Assistant Chief of Police Michael Sliwinski says the incident is still under investigation, but it doesn’t appear to be a shooting at this time because there isn’t any evidence to support the claim.

A resident who lives near the intersection spoke with Cheektowaga Chronicle Monday night and said she didn’t hear any gunshots.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Cheektowaga Police Department Detective Bureau at 716-686-3505.
