CHEEKTOWAGA – The man accused of severely beating another man along Walden Avenue during a road rage incident on December 19th briefly appeared in court Thursday.
Maurice Scott, 31, of Buffalo, faces a charge of second-degree assault, a class D Felony. Cheektowaga Police say he attacked Matthew Rudy, 41, of Cheektowaga, causing the victim to need surgery to repair shattered bones on the left side of his face, including a plate to support his eye.
Mr. Scott appeared in Cheektowaga Town Court Thursday, but his case has been adjourned to a future date. The Erie County District Attorney’s Office says he will reappear in Cheektowaga Town Court for a Felony hearing on February 5th at 9:30 am.
While Mr. Scott’s mug shot is available to the media, the Cheektowaga Police have asked that news outlets not publish it or photos from his court date to preserve the investigation. Assistant Chief of Police Michael Sliwinski says, “It is still an active investigation, and we are still accepting witness information. A published photo may taint the identification process.”
