CHEEKTOWAGA – The Cheektowaga Town Council honored the heroic actions of two Cheektowaga Police officers at Tuesday night’s town board meeting.

Lt. Anthony Filipski and Officer Dominic Schwartz were presented proclamations for their actions during the shooting incident at Dollar General earlier this November.

“Officer Dominic Schwartz immediately began pursuit and began drawing upon years of training and experience,” said Supervisor Diane Benczkowski.  “He was yelling at the suspect to stop and drop to the ground.”

Lt. Filipski arrived moments later joining in the foot pursuit and later tackled the suspect over a guardrail.

“Both recognized the immediate danger and need to end the incident without further harm and the heroic actions of Officer Schwartz and Lt. Filipski helped drain the suspect and end a very scary incident without additional harm to bystanders, law enforcement, or the suspect,” added Ms. Benczkowski.

A proclamation recognizing the entire police department’s efforts and the public safety dispatchers was also presented to Chief David Zack.
