Longtime Cleveland Hill firefighter Robert Trautman dies

CHEEKTOWAGA – Cleveland Hill Fire Commissioner Robert Trautman has died the department announced Sunday night.

The sudden passing of Mr. Trautman has left the fire organization with a “heavy heart” the department wrote on their official Facebook Page.  He died Friday at the age of 67.

“Commissioner Trautman was a current active firefighter for over forty-six years and served in various roles within the Cleveland Hill Fire Department including, fire department chief, fire department president, and most currently as fire district commissioner for the past twenty-five years,” said Cleveland Hill Fire Chief Matthew Chowaniec.

“Commissioner Trautman was a huge asset to the Cleveland Hill Fire Department.  He is widely known throughout the fire service for his kind personality and dedication to the industry,” he added.

Calling hours are scheduled for Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at the Cleveland Hill Fire Department, 440 Cleveland Drive, Cheektowaga, NY 14225 from 2:00 pm – 9:00 pm.

Parking at the fire hall is limited, and all are asked to park at Cleveland Hill Medical Group at 539 Cleveland Drive or Amigone Funeral Home at 569 Cleveland Drive.  Transportation will be provided to and from the fire hall from the parking lots.

His funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 am in the Maryvale Drive Presbyterian Church, 425 Maryvale Drive, Cheektowaga.

Mr. Trautman was a devoted husband and best friend of 44 years to Janice (nee Bell) Trautman. Cherished father of Donald (Amy), Kelli (Michael) Griffin and Jill (Aaron) Mackowiak. Loving Papa to Bryce Trautman. Dear brother-in-law of Kimberly (Sandy) Fermoile and the late Patricia (Joel) Eisenstein.

He was a loving son to the late Donald and Dorothy, a devoted son-in-law to the late Phyllis and Bud Bell, and is predeceased by his sister Donna. He is also survived by a sister Sharon; cousins Debbie and Diane; many loving nieces, nephews, friends, and the Cleveland Hill Family.

Flowers gratefully declined. If so desired, donations in Mr. Trautman’s memory may be made to the Cleveland Hill Fire Company.
