Eight years ago when I ran for office for the first time, I took my candidacy directly to the people, and successfully won all five political lines. My family and I were never involved in politics. My dad was a steelworker and my mom stayed home and raised me and my three sisters. I attended public schools my entire life and earned my Juris Doctor in law from the University of Buffalo. We were a family of limited means.
When I made the decision to run for public office eight years ago, I wrote a letter to the Cheektowaga residents introducing myself and my background to the general public. In my quest for a third term, I thought it might be prudent to reintroduce myself to the public by using the same letter I used eight years ago.
In my introduction, it stated I was the former Chief of Narcotics for the Erie County District Attorney’s office, where I was primarily responsible for coordinating drug investigations with every police department in Erie County involving drug trafficking and narcotics. I also worked for 17 years as a prosecuting attorney in different capacities.
I am an experienced trial lawyer and the former town and village prosecutor for Cheektowaga and Depew. Early in my career, I was a deputy sheriff in Erie County and a graduate of the police academy. I was a certified police officer in the State of New York.
In 1996, I was selected by the district attorney to be a member of the prosecution team that assisted in the jury trial of the man who shot and killed a Buffalo police officer and I received a special recognition from the Buffalo police for their appreciation.
In 2019, I will be seeking to remain your town judge for a third term. The amount of work and responsibility is immense, but it is an honor to serve. Besides my primary duty of running the criminal courts, I have presided exclusively over our civil courts and specialty courts, such as our combination mental health/drug court and our domestic violence court.
If re-elected, my pledge will always remain to work with unceasing dedication. Thank you so much for everyone’s consideration in my quest to continue on as your town judge.
Warmly,
Judge Paul S. Piotrowski
