CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – A local strip club isn’t laughing after funny money was used to make purchases recently.
Cheektowaga Police was called to Tryst Gentlemen’s Night Club at 777 Aero Drive Thursday night after a manager found four $100 bills and one $50 bill that appeared to be counterfeit.
Assistant Chief of Police Jim Speyer tells Cheektowaga Chronicle that the manager discovered the bills while counting the till and noticed that a few of the bills didn’t feel like real money. Speyer said the money was marked for use in the movies.
“This phony money looks very real and is used for props in the movie and entertainment industry. A counterfeit pen should indicate a phony. All “prop” money should have the words “For Motion Picture Use Only” or something very similar on both sides of the dollar bill,” Speyer said.
It’s unknown who used the fake money because the bills were brought in by waitresses from the floor.
Speyer says businesses, stores, and restaurants should always carefully inspect any large bills coming into their possession.
Police alerted the U.S. Secret Service to the incident.
