CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – Frontier Airlines will soon offer low-cost air service between Buffalo-Niagara International Aiport and five cities.
The ultra low-cost carrier based out of Denver, Colorado announced the new cities at a media conference at the airport Tuesday afternoon.
Starting in December, Frontier Airlines will begin service to Fort Myers, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa. Service to Denver, Colorado will commence sometime in Spring of 2018.
“These are points that are generally really popular with people in the region and also, may not have been served in the case of Miami and Fort Myers,” said Robert Westgate, Senior Director Schedule Planning for Frontier Airlines.
The company is also taking advantage of higher fares offered by other carriers. Mr. Westgate said he tried flying into Buffalo from Denver and was shocked by the $900 roundtrip price tag of some carriers.
“I flew into Cleveland and drove because Cleveland fares are a third of that, so clearly there’s an opportunity looking at the route map for Denver and points to the west that are well priced valuable service,” added Mr. Westgate.
You can purchase tickets through Frontier a la carte or by “The Works” which includes refundability, a carry-on bag, a checked bag, and the best available seat. An a la carte ticket to Orlando in March would have cost Cheektowaga Chronicle $597.96. A “Works” ticket $639.17.
A comparable bare bones direct flight roundtrip ticket on Jetblue would have cost $359.40.
“If you wanted to check bags, then you would have to pay to check the bag. If you wanted to have an assigned seat, you can pay to do that…The best option would be to get what we call the Works where all those things are included for one low fare,” continued Mr. Westgate.
