CHEEKTOWAGA – South Line firefighters stopped a kitchen fire from spreading inside a home at 22 Bobby Drive Friday afternoon.
Assistant Chief Dennis Rydzynski, Jr. tells Cheektowaga Chronicle he was first on the scene and found the fire contained to the home’s oven when he did his initial size-up of the fire.
“When I came outside to put my gear on it came out of the top of the oven. It burnt through the plastic on top of the oven, came out and started going up and into the cabinets above it,” said Mr. Rydzynski.
He declared a working kitchen fire around 3:45 pm. Moments later firefighters arrived and a hose line was advanced into the kitchen. The fire was contained from spreading beyond that point.
Two people live in the home with their dog.
“They can stay here. There is a little smell, but other than that, they can stay here,” added Mr. Rydzynski.
No one was hurt at the time of our interview Friday afternoon.
Bellevue firefighters covered a first aid call in South Line’s fire district during the fire.
Firefighters from West Seneca and Lancaster assisted South Line at the scene.
