CHEEKTOWAGA – An evacuation alarm was accidentally activated Wednesday afternoon at Walden Galleria according to Cheektowaga Police.

“A mistake was made by Walden Gallery Security,” Assistant Chief of Police Michael Sliwinski said in an email.  “A limited alert should’ve been sent out as a weekly test, but accidentally a full alert was sent out causing stores to close.”

The alarm was activated just after 2 pm.

Several 911 calls were received at the town’s emergency communication center with people reporting that patrons were running out of the mall in a panic.

Cheektowaga Police officers were inside the mall at the time of the alarm and quickly verified with emergency dispatchers that all was okay.

The police tweeted just before 3 pm that the mall is open and business is as usual.

An email to Walden Galleria seeking comment has not been returned.
