CHEEKTOWAGA – In the initial moments of the active shooter call at Dollar General Tuesday afternoon dispatchers sent police officers to the Dollar General on Union Road in the Airport Plaza.

Several 911 calls were informing the police department that the shooter was at the Dollar General in Cheektowaga.

“This created some initial confusion with our dispatchers as there are six Dollar General locations within our town,” said Cheektowaga Police Chief David Zack.

“We were able to ascertain that the particular (Dollar General) store in question was the Union Road location.  However, this created additional confusion as the Union Road location is actually located at the Airport Plaza at the intersection of Union Road and Genesee Street.”

The actual store address, while on Union Road, is 25 Gardenville Parkway West.

“Despite the confusion, CPD officers did arrive on scene within four minutes of the call being received,” added Chief Zack.

Several officers quickly subdued the suspect.
