Corrections officer arrested in Cheektowaga overdose

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – Cheektowaga Police arrested a New York State Corrections Officer following a drug overdose in Town.

Police said Robert Garry, 38, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Narcotic Drug, Criminal Possession of a Narcotic Drug with Intent to Sell, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Police started their investigation after a 24-year-old man overdosed at a house on Charles Street around 6 a.m. Wednesday.  Narcan was administered and the victim was revived and transported to Sisters of Charity Hospital, St. Joseph’s Campus.

Assistant Chief of Police James Speyer said there is evidence that shows Garry supplied the drugs to the victim and then hid them in a safe.

Garry, who is a State Corrections Officer at the Wyoming Correctional Facility, is scheduled to be arraigned in Cheektowaga Town Court Thursday morning.
