CHEEKTOWAGA – The second annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony was held outside town hall Wednesday evening.
“We can see how it has grown in one year – it doubled in size already,” said Councilmember Tim Meyers.
Christmas carols were sung by the Cheektowaga-Sloan Elementary Choirs under the direction of Amy Fitzner.
The lighting of the Christmas tree was performed by Mr. Meyers and the Becker Family.
“My father did it 30 some years ago when he was the supervisor and when he left office they stopped it. I went and talked to the supervisor last year when she got elected and asked her if we could bring it back and she was more than happy to do it,” said Mr. Meyers.
A parade of townwide emergency vehicles ushered in Mr. and Mrs. Claus to visit the families gathered.
Apple cider donated by Wegmans on Dick Road and donuts donated by Tim Hortons at Union and Losson Roads were enjoyed inside council chambers.
