Cheektowaga Police officer hurt subduing suspect

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – A Cheektowaga Police officer was hurt while subduing a suspect Monday night.

Assistant Chief of Police James Speyer tells Cheektowaga Chronicle that the officer broke his hand while trying to prevent a suspect from escaping.

Police were called to the 500 block of French Road around 9 p.m. Monday to investigate reports of a heated domestic issue involving a man and a woman.  The man tried running away while from police while in handcuffs.  He was later stopped at French Road and Cavailer Drive.

An ambulance was called to examine the officer and the female victim of the domestic.   The police officer received treatment at Sisters of Charity Hospital, St. Joseph’s Campus.

The police department is not naming the man because this is a domestic incident.  Police charged him with Assault in the Third Degree, Unlawful Imprisonment and Criminal Mischief.
