CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – First responders were called out to 171 incidents on Wednesday. Here are some of the calls that came into dispatch.
1:22 am – A dog was hit by a vehicle in the middle of E. Delavan Avenue. When officers got to the scene the Cane Corso without a collar had died. Animal control took the dog. A police report was filed.
2:44 am – Someone called to say they thought a person was living in a car in the Wegman’s parking lot off of Losson Road. It turns out the man’s car battery was dead. An employee helped him jump start, and he was on his way.
3:41 am – U-Crest firefighters were called to Lloyd Drive because a CO detector went off. It turned out to be a faulty detector.
4:31 am – A glass break detector went off at the Sunoco on Broadway near Harlem. It turns out several hundred dollars were taken from a cash drawer. A police report was filed. Later in the morning, managers told police they had a video of the break-in.
6:52 am – Forks firefighters were called to the I-90 westbound. A car rolled over. Two people were taken to the hospital by ambulance.
8:13 am – A call came in about a man who had been parked in his car for a couple of hours near the Aloft Hotel on Genesee Street. The caller thought it was strange. The man in the car was just taking a nap before driving home to Syracuse.
8:40 am – Two women were spotted stealing a TV from Walmart on Walden. The car they were in was tracked down to an address in Buffalo. They were both arrested and also charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
9:17 am – An officer noticed a vehicle speeding on Genesee Street. The car took off, and a man and woman bailed out of the vehicle when the officer tried to pull them over. The pair were tracked down on Beachwood. The man was arrested for marijuana possession.
10:16 am – An 11-year-old boy was taken to Children’s Hospital by ambulance from Maryvale School for a routine medical issue.
11:12 am – Police were called to Hospice on Como Park Boulevard after a male family member threatened staff and other family members. He said he would come back to the campus with a gun. Police spoke with the man and said he would not go back to Hospice.
12:51 pm – A driver was pulled over on Genesee Street and arrested for driving without a license or registration.
1:14 pm – A woman was arrested for shoplifting from Walmart.
1:17 pm – A man was arrested for attempted shoplifting from Tops in Thruway Plaza. The man also had marijuana and burglary tools on him.
1:47 pm – Forks firefighters and an ambulance were called to Town Hall after a woman fell in the tax office. She was checked out and signed off on further treatment.
2:10 pm – A man fell in the Stellar Dental Care office on Union Road. He was helped up by Forks firefighters.
2:12 pm – A driver was pulled over on Galleria Drive and arrested on a warrant out of Amherst.
4:11 pm – Doyle firefighters were called to a fire alarm on Cass Avenue. It was set off by overcooked food.
5:19 pm – Forks firefighters were called out to a fire alarm at Pizza Hut on Union Road. It turns out there is a faulty detector on duct work.
5:35 pm – Two people were taken to ECMC after a collision involving three cars on Genesee Street. Pine Hill firefighters and an ambulance crew were called to the scene, and Genesee Street was shut down for a short time near Harlem while the scene was cleaned up.
5:51 pm – A woman was in the St. Joe’s ER, allegedly a victim of an assault. The man suspected of assaulting her was sleeping in a car in the hospital parking lot. He was arrested, and a domestic incident report was filed.
6:52 pm – Police were called out to Stiglmeier Park. A woman was unresponsive in a shelter. The woman was taken to ECMC by police to be checked out.
7:02 pm – Officers were called down to the cell block at Police Headquarters for a man fighting. He was cuffed up and calmed down.
8:39 pm – A man was arrested at the Galleria for shoplifting property from multiple stores. He also had burglary tools on him when he was arrested.
8:45 pm – A bunny was caught in a fence on Louis Street. The caller was afraid of hurting the rabbit by dislodging it herself. The officer on the scene freed the bunny and called to SPCA to check out the rabbit.
8:51 pm – U-Crest firefighters were called to a home on Genesee Street. The family turned on their furnace, and they were feeling ill. There were no detectors in the house. The furnace was shut down, and they signed off on further treatment.
9:28 pm – A wire was arching in a tree on Evergreen Place. U-Crest firefighters were called to the scene along with a NYSEG crew.
9:59 pm – A guest at the Days Hotel on Genesee Street called to say their purse was taken from the hotel lobby. A police report was filed.
10:15 pm – An officer on patrol noticed an open door at the old Walmart in Thruway Plaza. No one was found inside the building.
