Cheektowaga man indicted in deadly hit and run

CHEEKTOWAGA – The Erie County District Attorney’s Office says 36-year-old Paul Hintermeier has been arraigned on a number of charges in connection with a crash over the summer.

The indictment handed up charges him with two counts of Vehicular Manslaughter in the Second Degree and Leaving the Scene of an Incident Resulting in Death. If he is convicted of all the charges, Hintermeier faces a maximum of 14 years in prison.

Hintermeier is accused of driving with a BAC twice the legal limit, when he ran a stop sign onto Shanley Street, and struck a bicyclist near Partner’s Pizza. The crash happened on August 11. The bicyclist, 18-year-old Damian Garra of Cheektowaga later died as a result of the crash.

Hintermeier pleaded not guilty and was remanded to jail without bail.
