CHEEKTOWAGA – New York State Police have levied charges against a Cheektowaga man after he fled a crash scene on the NYS Thruway this past February.
State Police responded to the Interstate-90 around the Walden Avenue exit to investigate a hit-and-run property damage accident on February 13th around 6 pm.
The victim told Troopers that he tried to stop a blue Ford Explorer which sideswiped his truck, but the driver began to pull away while the victim was standing near the front of the Explorer, causing the victim to slide across the hood, suffering non-life threatening injuries.
An investigation was opened and police later identified the driver of the Explorer as Niklaus J. Kristiansson, 34, of Cheektowaga.
Mr. Kristiansson was recently arrested and charged with Assault 3rd degree, a Class A Misdemeanor and several Vehicle and Traffic Violations.
Mr. Kristiansson was issued an appearance ticket and will appear in Cheektowaga Town Court on April 17, 2019, at 8:30 am.
It was also discovered that Mr. Kristiansson had an active arrest warrant from the City of Buffalo and was subsequently turned over to the custody of the Buffalo Police Department.
