The Section VI Class B Champions continue their march to a state championship by defeating Hornell in the state’s regional competition at Brockport Saturday.
Cheektowaga was first to score with a 32-yard pass to RB Jaquan Bush. The follow-up extra point try was no good. They recovered an onside kick but could not make anything of the opportunity.
After several unproductive series on both sides of the ball, Cheektowaga’s DB Lamar Reeves III intercepted a Hornell pass. A 40-yard quarterback keeper by KeShone Beal placed Cheektowaga near the red zone.
Following a 20-yard pass to WR Tommy Zolnowski, KeShone Beal ran the ball for 5-yards for another six points. A two-point conversion was good.
Cheektowaga recovered a Hornell fumble seconds before the close of the 1st quarter – Cheektowaga leads 14-0.
KeShine Beal was sacked on the first play of the 2nd quarter fumbling the ball. Hornell recovered, and QB Luke Smith fired a 21-yard pass to Spencer Weyand but failed to convert inside the red zone.
The score going into halftime was 14-0.
Hornell’s Hunter Babcock ran a 53-yard play to set up in the red zone, but they couldn’t convert. Cheektowaga shut down Hornell’s offense and prevented them from converting on 3rd down a majority of the game.
At the conclusion of the 3rd quarter and start of the 4th, a 42-yard pass to Cheektowaga’s Jaquan Pugh set up their field position to have a 4-yard QB sneak performed by KeShone Beal which resulted in a touchdown. Cheektowaga leads 21-0.
After an unproductive series by Hornell – Cheektowaga’s KeShone Beal connected a 70-yard touchdown pass to Tommy Zolnowski bringing the score to 28-0.
Hornell finally got on the board with 3:36 remaining in the game with a 24-yard reception and touchdown by Josh Stiles but the deficit was too much to come back from, and Cheektowaga advances to the state semi-finals 28-6. They will face Chenango Forks next Saturday at Union-Endicott High School.
