Buffalo Police officer charged with DWI after crash

CHEEKTOWAGA – A Buffalo Police officer was charged with DWI Monday morning after crashing a city-owned vehicle in the parking lot of Wegmans on Transit Road according to Cheektowaga Police.

Assistant Chief of Police Jim Speyer tells Cheektowaga Chronicle Mark Locicero, of Tonawanda, was charged with DWI after crashing a 2004 Nissan Xterra into a 2015 Hyundai at 12:28 am Monday morning.

Mr. Locicero is a Buffalo Police officer according to Mr. Speyer and the vehicle he was driving was towed back to a city lot by a Buffalo Police tow truck.  It is unclear if he was working at the time of the incident.

WIVB-TV and WGRZ-TV report that Mr. Locicero is a narcotics detective with the department and has been suspended without pay while an internal investigation is conducted.

An email to a Buffalo Police spokesperson asking if they can confirm if Mr. Locicero is a narcotics detective and if he was placed on leave was replied to Wednesday night saying Cheektowaga Police is the lead agency.

Mr. Locicero was also charged with a similar alcohol-related driving incident in the 1990’s according to Cheektowaga Police.
