Benczkowski seeks residents for Citizens Budget Advisory Committee

CHEEKTOWAGA (Release) – Supervisor Diane Benczkowski is once again seeking residents to take part in the Supervisor’s Citizens Budget Advisory Committee.  The committee was first formed in 2016 to receive resident input in evaluating and recommending expense reductions to the Supervisor, with the ultimate goal of reducing the tax burden for all residents.  More than a dozen residents have taken part each year with the Supervisor incorporating $700,000 and $750,000 in recommended savings in her tentative 2017 and 2018 Town budgets.

“Resident input is so crucial to town government and what better way for residents to get involved than having a say in how their tax dollars are spent,” said Cheektowaga Supervisor Diane Benczkowski.  “I have been impressed by the due diligence and dedication from the residents that have taken part, and their hard work has resulted in real savings for our Town.  It is my hope that more residents will take part this year and voice their opinions on how the town should spend their tax dollars.”

Benczkowski also announced the creation of a Citizens Youth & Recreation Advisory Council earlier this year with the goal of making recommendations to the Supervisor as to what youth and recreational activities or programming residents want the town to provide.  The Citizens Youth & Recreation Advisory Council was formed to mirror the Budget Advisory Committee, providing another way for residents to have input on what programs and activities are organized or funded by their town government.

Budget Director Stanley J. Kaznowski, III will lead the Citizens Budget Advisory Committee and the committee will make recommendations to the Supervisor as she prepares the 2019 Town budget.  The Town Supervisor is tasked with preparing and submitting a budget annually to the Town Board, with the Town Board having final approval.

Residents interested in becoming a member of the Supervisor’s Citizens Budget Advisory Committee can submit a letter of interest to the attention of the Supervisor via mail to Town Hall, 3301 Broadway, Cheektowaga, NY 14227 or by emailing  The Supervisor’s Budget Advisory Committee is a voluntary and informal committee started by Supervisor Diane Benczkowski to encourage resident participation and input in Town government.  Meeting dates and times will be determined once the committee has enough participants.
