CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – Arcing and burning power lines in a tree shut down a portion of Como Park Boulevard Saturday morning.

The Bellevue Fire Company was alerted to investigate a burning pole or tree along the 1300 block of Como Park Blvd around 7:30 a.m.

Firefighters found arcing power lines which caused a tree to catch fire according to Cheektowaga Fire Dispatch.

There was a concern that the fire could burn through the tree causing it to come down.  Firefighters shut down the road at Borden Road and Honorine Drive as a precaution.

The moderate rain falling at the time extinguished the fire a while later.

NYSEG was called to the scene.

The road was closed for about two hours.
