CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – The Supervisor of Cheektowaga and the Town Board recognized a 29-year Meals on Wheels volunteer.

Ann Wargula first began volunteering for Meals on Wheels at the Cheektowaga Senior Center in January 1988 with her husband Gene.

After Mr. Wargula died, Ms. Wargula teamed up with her friend Ruth Deneger.

Ms. Wargula is described as a true “giver” of her time, her smile and her heart and not even a bad snowstorm can keep her away from volunteering.

She now resides in Elma, but she continues to volunteers in Cheektowaga. She also volunteers twice a week in the gift shop at the Elderwood at Cheektowaga Skilled Nursing Facility on Bennett Road.  She recently received her 20-year service pin.

She remains an active member at St. Phillip the Apostle Church.
