CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. –The ALDI store at 1685 Walden Avenue reopened to the public Friday morning after a six-week long renovation.
The 1,392 SF expansion allows the store to offer larger produce, meat, and dairy selections. They added wayfinding signs to make shopping easier and added fresher lighting and environmentally friendly refrigeration.
“We’re trying to make all of our stores very similar to make it easier for customers going forward. This layout is a little bit different than the old layout but it is on par with what we are coming out with our more modern look,” said Crissy Harvey, ALDI District Manager.
More than 50 people lined up outside of the store for the ribbon cutting at 8:25 am. Cheektowaga resident Bonnie Burek found her spot in line over an hour ago.
“It’s cold, it’s freezing, but we don’t mind it. We’re happy that the store is finally open,” said Ms. Burek.
She and her friend Suzy Putland shop regularly at ALDI and made trips to different ALDI stores while their Walden Avenue store under going renovations. They’re looking forward to shopping in the new store.
“More room in aisles and the different placement of the items in the aisles. Quality and price, nice price,” added Ms. Burek.
Inside, after snapping up a deal on frozen shrimp, Ms. Burek told Ms. Putland, “What a beautiful store, this is wonderful.”
A set number of initial customers received an eco-friendly bag and was entered to win a year of free produce. ALDI is open most days from 9 am to 8 pm.
