SLOAN, N.Y. – A Village of Sloan woman was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated after her car and a tanker truck collided Wednesday evening.

The crash happened at 8:28 p.m. on Harlem Road between Gierlach Street and Gruner Road.  A Chrysler Town & Country minivan collided with a Peterbilt tractor trailer tanker truck.

Cheektowaga Police charged Susan Kelm, 55, of Gierlach Street with DWI according to Assistant Chief of Police Jim Speyer.

An ambulance crew from American Medical Response examined one of the drivers at the scene but did not transport anyone to the hospital.

Sloan firefighters attended to the scene and applied 200lbs of a granulated absorbent material to soak up a fluid spill.

The truck was operated by a Warren, Pennsylvania petroleum transportation company, Crossett Incorporated.  At the time of the crash, it was placarded to be transporting gasoline, though a law enforcement source said the tanker was empty.

Traffic on Harlem Road was reduced to two lanes while crews attended to the scene.

Suburban towed the minivan from the scene while Rusinak’s attended to the truck.
