Shotgun recovered at rollover crash scene on Union Road

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – One woman was sent to the hospital, a man was detained by police and a shotgun and slugs were recovered at the scene of a rollover crash Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. at Old Union Road and Union Road.

A witness at the scene said the driver of a sedan blew through a red light and smashed into an SUV causing it to roll onto its roof.  The driver of the SUV was able to crawl out under her own power.  She was later transported to Erie County Medical Center.

A shotgun and slugs were recovered at the scene by police.  The witness said the driver of the sedan heard the sirens of police cars and threw the shotgun out of the car.

The driver of the sedan was detained at the scene by police and was later transported to police headquarters.

Charges were not yet available at the time of publication.
