Minivan hits Aero Drive fire hydrant, rolls onto roof

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – A woman was not seriously injured after she hit a fire hydrant and rolled her minivan on Aero Drive Saturday evening.

The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. between the two roundabouts on Aero Drive.  The driver lost control of her van, struck a fire hydrant and rolled the vehicle onto its roof.

The woman was evaluated by EMS workers at the scene but did not go to the hospital.

Both Amherst Police and Cheektowaga Police attended to the scene.  Amherst Police told Cheektowaga Chronicle that Cheektowaga Police was handling the crash investigation.  We were told a separate incident involving Amherst Police was under investigation and additional information what not yet available.

U-Crest firefighters were seen at a nearby business trying to clear storm drains to allow water to drain before it impeded on a building.

Traffic along Aero Drive was impacted for several hours while Erie County Water Authority crews repaired the damaged fire hydrant.
