CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – Mary Queen of Angels School will close at the end of the 2016-2017 school year according to a report in the Diocese’s official newspaper.

The 70-year-old Catholic school attached to Queen of Martyrs Church on George Urban Boulevard will close at the end of the current school year because of declining enrollment.

The school averages only 11 students per grade from kindergarten through eighth grade according to a report in the Western New York Catholic.  Only half of the students were expected to return next year.

“This was a very difficult decision for the Board of Trustees, but I trust their conclusion that the school could not reopen in the fall and remain financially viable through another year,” said Bishop Malone. “We will work closely with the parents to make sure that a Catholic education remains available to all of these students.”

The school employs 31 faculty members and staff.
