Jaws of Life used at crash in front of Senior Center

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – Forks firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to pry open a door at a three car crash Tuesday morning.

It happened a few minutes before 9 a.m. at the access road to the Cheektowaga Senior Center on Broadway.

Cheektowaga Police at the scene tells Cheektowaga Chronicle that a westbound Chevy Trailblazer rear-ended a stopped Ford Transit cargo van.  The force of the crash pushed the van into the eastbound lanes where it crashed into a Chevy Equinox.

Forks firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to pry open the Equinox’s door.  The driver was able to walk out of the vehicle under her own power.

A total of five people where in the crash.  Three people were transported to Sisters of Charity Hospital, St. Joseph Campus by ambulance.  The driver of the Trailblazer told Cheektowaga Chronicle she was waiting for her husband to take her to the hospital.

The driver of the Trailblazer was issued a traffic ticket for Imprudent Speed.

Broadway’s eastbound lanes were shut down at Union Road while crews attended to the scene.
