CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – Rescue Hose firefighters and mutual aid companies responded to Haller Avenue Wednesday night to fight a fire.

The blaze broke out just before 9:30 p.m. at 69 Haller Avenue.  Rescue Hose Fire Company 1st Assistant Chief Richard Chojnacki was one of the first people on the scene.

“Heavy fire conditions on the rear of the structure – it looked like it could have been a basement fire,” said Asst. Chief Chojnacki.

As firefighters explored the scene further, they found that two garbage cans in the back of the house caught fire and spread up the outside of the house.

“Our Ladder 6 came in laid a hand line in and got a pretty good knockdown on the fire.  There was no extension to the interior of the house at all,” added Asst. Chief Chojnacki.

The fire appears to be suspicious, and Cheektowaga Police Detectives from the fire investigation unit were seen interviewing eyewitnesses and combing through the scene.

Everyone got out of the house safely, and no one was hurt.

Asst. Chief Chojnacki says that the fire caused a few thousand dollars in damage.

Fire companies who assisted Rescue Hose at the scene were Sloan, Pine Hill, South Line, U-Crest, Forks, and the town’s disaster coordinator.  Cleveland Hill stood by at Rescue’s hall.
