Cleveland Hill advances to state semi-finals

The Cleveland Hill Golden Eagles defeated the Caledonia-Mumford Red Raiders Saturday in Brockport.

Cleveland Hill was first to score with a 1-yard touchdown run by RB Aaron Wahler.  A two-point conversion was successful.

Cal-Mum was quick to answer with a 55-yard run by QB Anthony Maye.

Cleveland Hill’s RB Javon Thomas ran for 60-yards before Cal-Mum’s WR Lucas Stucchio received a 38-yard pass for a touchdown.

Cleveland Hill led Cal-Mum 16 to 13 going into halftime.

Cal-Mum charged up the field to start the 3rd quarter setting up Bryce Yockel to run the ball in for a touchdown.

Cleveland Hill was not able to make anything happen during their only series of the quarter, and Cal-Mum led 20-16 going into the 4th quarter.

The Eagles came alive again in the 4th quarter.  Aaron Wahler rushed for 59-yards for a touchdown.  The two-point conversion tried failed.

After stuffing Cal-Mum’s offense, RB Javon Thomas ran the ball for a 43-yard touchdown with less than five minutes left in the game.  The two-point conversion gave Cleveland Hill a two-score advantage at 30-20.

Cal-Mum went to the air twice giving the Red Raiders excellent field position in the red zone but four downs weren’t enough, and they turned the ball over to Cleveland Hill.  They didn’t disappoint fans.  Their first play of the series had Aaron Wahler run the ball for a 91-yard touchdown and with less than two minutes remaining sealed their fate as champions.

Cleveland Hill won the game 38 – 20.  They will face Skaneateles next week Saturday in the state’s semifinals at Union-Endicott High School.
