Cheektowaga Police Blotter: Weekend of November 10, 2017

Here is a look at some of the events first responders were called out to over the past weekend.

Friday, November 10: 174 calls

1:31 am – A call came in from Partner’s Pizza after a man allegedly tried to pass a $50 counterfeit bill. The money was logged into evidence and a police report was filed. Officers were not able to track down the suspect. 

6:25 am – South Line firefighters were called to a possible transformer fire in the backyard of a home on Sherry Drive. The wires were arching and NYSEG was notified about the issue.

8:33 am – Cleveland Hill firefighters were called out to Harlem Road after a fire alarm keypad was set off. It turned out an employee accidentally set off the alarm. 

8:37 am – U-Crest firefighters were called to Innovations Hair Design on Union Road after an employee arrived at work to find the smoke detector going off. No sign of fire was found. It turned out to be a bad detector. 

8:54 am – While officers were investigating an unwanted guest on Harlem Road a person was arrested on warrants out of Buffalo and Amherst as well as possession of a weapon. 

9:01 am – A man called to ask police to check on his 89-year-old mother because she has not been answering the phone. Officers went to her house. She was fine, just decided to sleep in that morning. She got in touch with her son. 

9:30 am – A short change scammer was caught on video in a shop on Harlem Road. A police report was filed for petit larceny.

9:47 am – An elderly woman was at Dave’s Christmas on Union Road and confused about how she got there and how to get home. Family was contacted and came to pick the woman up.

10:01 am – Police filed a report after a woman reported her tires were slashed on Strasbourg Drive.

10:09 am – U-Crest firefighters were called to Westland Parkway. There was a report of smoke coming from a basement. There was possibly an issue with the hot water tank. Residents were advised to evacuate. It turns out the boiler system was pushing a bunch of steam. Power and gas were shut off. National Fuel was called to the scene. Cleveland Hill, Hy-View, South Line, Rescue, and Sloan were all called to help in the incident.

10:20 am – Hy-View firefighters were called to Banko Drive for an unresponsive 94-year-old woman. Police filed a report on the natural death. 

11:41 am – An ambulance crew responded to the Galleria for a medical issue. 

11:44 am – Two people were taken to local hospitals after a crash on Genesee Street.

12:26 pm – A man was on the ramp to the I-90 from Walden, holding a sign and asking for money. The man was advised by police to leave the area.

1:18 pm – Cleveland Hill firefighters were called to Windwood Court to check out an unresponsive man. A police report was filed on the natural death.

1:56 pm – U-Crest firefighters and an ambulance crew were called to the Galleria because someone was choking in a bathroom. The patient ended up signing off on further treatment. 

2:07 pm – Pine Hill firefighters and an AMR crew were called to a home on Harlem Road because a one-year-old was suffering a seizure and not breathing. The baby was taken to the new Children’s Hospital.

2:59 pm – South Line firefighters were called to Janine Court. An electrical outlet in the basement was on fire. The homeowner was advised to remove the hazard.

2:58 pm – An adult woman was picked up for shoplifting at the Galleria. She had a 15-year-old and 10-year-old boy along with her. They were in a vehicle in the parking lot when they were stopped by police. 

3:52 pm – A man pushed an associate at Heart of the Game on South Rossler Avenue. He then ran from the store with three x-box games. A police report was filed and information was turned over to the detective’s bureau.

4:37 pm – Doyle firefighters were called out after a fire alarm went off on William Street. It turns out it was set off by dust.

4:50 pm – A father called upset, saying his 19-year-old daughter was posting photos online of her drinking and doing cocaine at Pharoah’s Gentlemen’s Club. The manager was advised about the young woman. She did not have any drugs on her when police checked her out.

5:21 pm – A grandson called the police. His grandfather sent $3,600 to an unknown person after he got a call saying his grandson (the caller) was in jail. The grandson was never in jail. A police report was filed on the scam.

5:36 pm – A customer at the Galleria was yelling and cursing at employees and other customers after his credit card was denied. He refused to leave when asked by managers. Police got to the store and advised the man who eventually took off. 

5:55 pm – A police report was filed after a man said his former landlord broke an order of protection and came to his Parker Street home and threw oil over belongings in the garage.

6:41 pm – An ambulance crew was called to the cell block at police headquarters. A man had difficulty breathing and needed an inhaler. He signed off and refused treatment.

7:29 pm – A woman at Williamstowne Apartments called the police to say she gave her neighbor money to buy her cigarettes. The neighbor then returned and allegedly gave her marijuana. She did not know until she smoked and “got high”. Police went to the neighbors and got her money back. But they checked out the cigarettes – they were not filled with ganja. 

8:27 pm – Two teen boys were picked up by police at the Galleria for taking two demo iPhones from a store.

8:56 pm – A man was found unconscious in a car in the Tops parking lot at Thruway Plaza. Needles were found on the seat. He was taken to St. Joes for treatment.

10:39 pm – A drunk woman was yelling at her ex-husband and children on Lovejoy Street. When police went to check out the incident they ended up arresting her on a warrant out of Buffalo.

Saturday, November 11: 166 Calls

1:18 am – A security guard around Cabela’s noticed people in a couple cars get out and go towards the store. It turned out they were playing Pokemon. They were advised. 

1:43 am – A driver was pulled over on Genesee Street and arrested for driving without a license.

2:09 am – A drunk man called 911 from French Road. He said he was almost hit by a car and can no longer walk. He was gone by the time police got to the scene.

2:09 am – A drunk driver was pulled over on Harlem Road and arrested for DWI and driving without a license.

2:12 am – An officer on patrol noticed a man walking through Town Park. He was advised the park was closed until the morning.

3:24 am – A person in a vehicle in Town Park was advised by an officer on patrol that the park is closed from sundown to sunrise.

3:30 am – A person driving a Hummer was pulled over and arrested for driving without a license. They also had a warrant out of Buffalo.

4:59 am – Bellevue firefighters were called to check out an alarm at Appletree Business Park. It turned out to be an alarm malfunction.

6:52 am – Police were called to check out some illegal dumping on Huth Road. A refrigerator was in a field. The highway department was notified to pick it up.

7:36 am – A man on Sherry Drive called police because a dog followed him home, and he doesn’t know who the pooch belongs to. The boxer mix was picked up by an officer.

9:16 am – A police report was filed after items were taken from a house being remodeled. A toilet was taken from the garage.

9:50 am – A passerby noticed a couple men pushing a gun safe down Cayuga Creek Road. Everything was fine, they were just taking scrap metal over for some cash.

10:45 am – Security at the Galleria called police to deal with a man acting strangely. He was sitting and eating food out of the garbage near the Apple Store. He was taken to the bus stop and advised to not return to the mall.

10:50 am – A drunk man called from the Comfort Inn on Dingens Street asking for an ambulance. He was taken to ECMC.

11:21 am – A call came in about a woman going into a vacant house. It turns out she works for the bank and was checking a roof leak and pumping the basement out.

11:55 am – An officer noticed smoke coming from a yard on Southgate Road. The residents were advised about open burning and they put the fire out.

12:13 pm – A woman in the cell block at police headquarters was taken to ECMC by ambulance after having a seizure.

12:44 pm – A pooch was taken back to the kennel after someone dropped the dog off at police headquarters. The dog was found on Peachtree Road.

12:54 pm – A driver was arrested on Pine Ridge for driving without a license. 

2:18 pm – A person was arrested after a car crash on Como Park Boulevard. The person is facing charges of drunk driving and false personation. They also had a warrant out of Lancaster. 

4:36 pm – Cleveland Hill firefighters were called to Charnwood Drive for a carbon detector. It turns out the homeowner just hit the alarm’s test button.

5:10 pm – An ambulance was called to check out a female prisoner at police headquarters. She was striking her head on the wall and cut herself. She signed off on further treatment.

5:46 pm – A teenager was taken into custody for shoplifting at the Galleria.

6:51 pm – A woman was arrested for shoplifting from Family Dollar on Genesee Street.

9:55 pm – Police, firefighters, and an ambulance crew were called to the Home Depot parking lot in Thruway Plaza. A man appeared to be passed out at the wheel of a vehicle. It was thought he could be overdosing from drugs. He was checked out and declined further medical treatment.

10:53 pm – An officer helped a woman at the Galleria by the Eco ATM. She put her phone in the machine to see what it was worth, and she could not get it out. The phone was retrieved.

11:12 pm – A person was arrested for drunk driving on Slate Creek Drive after a hit and run. 

Sunday, November 12: 114 Calls

1:01 am – A domestic incident report was filed after a woman’s boyfriend punched her in the face and dragged her out of the vehicle in the Burger King parking lot on Union Road. 

1:28 am – A police report was filed after a woman said someone threatened to post her nude photos online.

1:45 am – A call came in about a blue Audi blasting music in a driveway on Union Road. A woman got out of the car and peed on the driveway. The group in the car was advised and sent on their way.

2:39 am – A person was arrested for DWI, driving without a license, and narcotics on Alpine Place. This is after a call came in about the car running in the road with someone slumped at the wheel.

3:43 am – A driver was pulled over on Genesee Street and arrested for driving without a license.

8:47 am – A man and woman were spotted breaking into a house on Beale Avenue. The bank changed the locks on the house and they were trying to get their items. They were advised.

10:14 am – Police were called to Infant of Prague Parish. A man was in the back of the church disturbing parishioners. He was advised to leave and not return, or face trespassing charges. 

10:15 am – Doyle firefighters were called to Fern Lane for a fire alarm activation. There were no readings of CO. The residents were advised about a faulty detector.

11:25 am – A driver was arrested for driving without a license at Thruway Plaza.

2:37 pm – A call came in about a toddler running naked in a yard on Iroquois Avenue. Police found a couple clothed kids outside playing football. The father said they were trying to potty train the 3-year-old when he took off and ran out of the house.

2:52 pm – A man was arrested for shoplifting from Home Depot in Thruway Plaza.

3:01 pm – A police report was filed over a stolen bicycle on French Road.

4:35 pm – A bulldog found walking around with a leash still attached on Orchard Place. The friendly pup was reunited with its owner.

5:04 pm – A woman was checked out for a back injury after a car crash on Galleria Drive. She signed off on further treatment.

6:07 pm – Two people were arrested for marijuana possession on Wagner Avenue.

11:04 pm – Sloan firefighters were called to check out a CO alarm on Atlantic Avenue. It turned out to be a faulty detector.
